Metáfora e linguagem económica tornaram-se partes de uma atração fatal que vêm dando à luz inúmera descendência verbalizada. Partindo da posição de Lakoff e Johnson (1980:10) sobre a sistematização metafórica ("Because the metaphorical concept is systematic, the language we use to talk about that aspect of the concept is systematic") pretende-se perceber como se constrói essa sistematicidade nas metáforas ligadas à Bolsa de Valores e mercados financeiros. Assenta, esta análise, sobretudo na perspetiva de metáfora concetual introduzida por Lakoff e Johnson (1980) e na importância da relação entre metáfora e metonímia (Goossens 1990; Barcelona 2000; Dirven & Pörings 2002).
