Complexidade topológica

Abstract

A noção de complexidade topológica de um espaço X surgiu, de certa forma, devido ao problema da planificação de movimentos na área da Robótica. Dados dois pontos A e B de um espaço X, o problema da planificação de movimentos consiste em determinar um caminho contínuo que ligue o ponto inicial A ao ponto final B. Em espaços topológicos conexos por arcos, este problema tem sempre solução, no entanto não existe um procedimento contínuo para associar a cada par de pontos um caminho que os ligue. Michael Farber iniciou o estudo deste fenómeno topológico no seu artigo “Topological complexity of motion planning”[7] de 2001. O autor associou a cada espaço topológico X conexo por arcos um número representado por TC(X) chamado de complexidade topológica de X e que é uma medida de descontinuidade da planificação de movimentos. Neste trabalho, iremos apresentar e demonstrar algumas propriedades do invariante TC(X) e calcular o seu valor para alguns espaços topológicos.
