Media, etnocentrismo e estereótipos sociais

Abstract

Nesta comunicação analisamos o papel dos media na construção dos estereótipos sociais, nomeadamente, dos estereótipos referentes a grupos étnicos. Apresentamos os resultados de uma experiência sobre o processamento de informação social que se desenrolou em duas fases. Na primeira fase os participantes foram confrontados com hipotéticas notícias de jornal que deveriam analisar. Na segunda fase (dois dias depois) foi-lhes pedido para reproduzirem a notícia que leram o mais fielmente possível. As notícias apresentadas descreviam acontecimentos positivos ou negativos associados a um protagonista cujo grupo étnico diferia de versão para versão. Nesta comunicação analisamos o tipo de erros cometidos pelos participantes na reconstrução das mensagens e discutimos a importância de uma educação crítica face aos media.
