Abstract

This report presents a “Reflection on Art in the Teaching of Philosophy” and falls within the scope of the Master's Degree in Teaching Philosophy in Secondary Education. In the academic year of 2022/2023, the module on human action and aesthetic values was taught to the 11th class at Escola Secundária de Barcelos. This study explores themes such as aesthetics, art, culture and Figurado (Barcelos’ most relevant artistic manifestation), associating them with teaching philosophy in secondary education. In accordance with the 10th and 11th year Philosophy program, this work seeks to encourage creativity not only in students, but also in Philosophy teachers in the context of the classroom. The aim is, in the first part, to revisit some of the most important authors in the pedagogical and artistic field, in order to establish a scientific foundation that serves as the basis for the present study. Theory meets practice in the second part, where the application of the project in the classroom is explained. This study aims to highlight that it is beneficial to associate the philosophy teaching program with the culturally relevant aspects of the city where the internship took place, in order to make teaching more captivating according to the students’ geographic and cultural context.
