Abstract

Karl May, in his novels, makes great use of diseases and their medical treatment as metaphors. Moreover, he shows his interest in medicine by describing illness and cure of his personae. In his lifetime his view changes; more and more the medicine of native tribes and spiritual tendencies as well as natural remedies gain influence upon him. Homoepathy ist often mentioned by him.
