Abstract

Il volume, destinato a chi abbia già seguito un corso introduttivo di linguistica, è una breve introduzione alla morfologia, lo studio della struttura delle parole. La morfologia è un livello di analisi linguistica non sempre riconosciuto: influenti modelli teorici hanno infatti tentato di costruire una teoria della grammatica che facesse a meno di tale livello, dividendo tra la sintassi e la fonologia il compito di render conto dei fenomeni morfologici. Attualmente, si è invece propensi a riconoscere l’esistenza di un livello morfologico autonomo di organizzazione dei sistemi linguistici, non riducibile né alla fonologia, né alla sintassi, né alla semantica. Nel libro, dopo aver richiamato alcune delle nozioni tradizionalmente utilizzate in morfologia, si espongono caratteri e limiti della nozione di morfema adottata dallo strutturalismo europeo e nordamericano, e si presentano gli aspetti principali di un modello di morfologia a parole e paradigmi. Un capitolo è dedicato anche alla formazione dei lessemi.
