Üniversite öğrencilerinde kader algısı, gelecek kaygısı ve hayat memnuniyeti arasındaki ilişkiler

Abstract

The aim of this study is to examine the relationships between the perception of destiny, future anxiety, and life satisfaction among university students. The perception of destiny reflects an individuals’ effort to make sense of their life and their relationship with the surrounding environment. The understanding of destiny, which shapes one’s outlook on life, is addressed in this research through the frameworks of Cebriyye, Mutezile, and Ehl-i Sünnet perspectives. Exploring young individuals’ perceptions of destiny is significant for understanding their levels of future anxiety and life satisfaction. In the first phase of the research, a literature review was conducted to establish the theoretical framework. Subsequently, a quantitative method, specifically the survey technique, was employed in accordance with the research objectives. The population of the study consists of individuals’ enrolled in various universities and departments across Turkey. The research sample includes 472 volunteer university students studying in different cities, primarily Istanbul, Ankara, Samsun, and Izmir. To collect data, the following instruments were used: Personal Information Form, Future Anxiety Scale for University Students (ÜÖGK), Destiny Perception Scale (KAÖ), and Life Satisfaction Scale (HMÖ). The data obtained from these scales were analyzed using the SPSS 25 software package. A frequency table was generated for the sociodemographic variables. To assess differences in group means, the Independent Samples T-Test and the non- parametric Mann-Whitney U test were used for two-group variables; for variables with three or more groups, One-Way ANOVA and the non-parametric Kruskal-Wallis H test were applied. Pearson correlation analysis was used to determine the direction and strength of the relationships between the scales. The findings of the study revealed statistically significant positive relationships between the sub-dimensions of future anxiety, namely fear of the future and hopelessness about the future. A significant negative relationship was found between future anxiety and life satisfaction. In addition, weak to moderate correlations were observed between types of destiny perception and life satisfaction, as well as between these variables and the sub-dimensions of future anxiety. These findings suggest that individuals’ perceptions of destiny and levels of life satisfaction may have an influence on the extent of their anxiety and fear concerning the future.
