Arte cristiana ad Aquileia nella tarda antichità. Diario di viaggio

Abstract

Since many years I have “archaeologically” attended the ancient city of Aquileia, to understand its evolution through the artistic manifestations. This path has interested first of all the symbolic expressions, and especially the “christianized” myth of the phoenix, and then the cosmic imagery, as it results from the mosaic floor decorations of the so-called “oratori”, namely the triclinia of late antique domus, and from the two Halls of the Theodorian Basilica. My curiositas accompanied me also towards the funerary dimension, and principally the figured incision on marble slabs, place as iconographic commentary to the christian inscriptions.
