Abstract

Lo studio analizza la fisionomia delle presenze monetali nel territorio della Peucezia dalle prime attestazioni (VI-V sec. a.C.) fino al III secolo a.C. Le fasi più antiche si caratterizzano per una precoce penetrazione delle produzioni delle colonie magno-greche della costa ionica, e per la loro progressiva proiezione in direzione adriatica in associazione con moneta di Tarentum che, nel corso del IV sec. a.C., domina il quadro della circolazione. Risalta, poi, per i decenni a seguire, la progressiva rarefazione dell’apporto magnogreco. Nell’ambito del III secolo a.C. si colloca l’avvio di produzioni locali. Nei reperti monetali recuperati isolatamente datati nell’ambito del III sec. a.C. si legge un esiguo ma persistente contributo di argento tarantino cui si accostano, alla fine del secolo, le prime, sporadiche attestazioni d’argento di zecca romana, denari e vittoriati.
