Introduzione al cinismo

Abstract

Il cinismo non fu un episodio: il movimento fu attivo per secoli, fino alla fine dell’evo antico, in tutto il mondo mediterraneo, e con un numero di adepti che ha fatto parlare di “fenomeno di massa”. Molti dei suoi schemi e delle sue condotte sono filtrati non solo nello stoicismo, ma anche nella predicazione cristiana delle origini. Per tutta l’età medievale e moderna, fino all’Illuminismo, il cinismo ha mantenuto una folta schiera di ammiratori, per essere poi in gran parte dimenticato dopo la condanna hegeliana. Dagli anni Ottanta, c’è stato un risveglio d’interesse per la filosofia cinica, trainato soprattutto dagli scritti di Foucault e di Sloterdijk, ma la sua eco in Italia è ancora limitata. Questo volume si propone di inquadrare il cinismo antico nelle sue linee generali, fino ad esplorare i suoi possibili effetti sul cristianesimo e sulla cultura medievale.
