The essay reconstructs the times and the ways in which the notion of Third Theater became established in the panorama of the new professionalism theater of the Seventies. An event that appears to be taken for granted only in retrospect and which was actually not completely linear nor without contradictions. With the help of contemporaneous documents, the author examines the affirmation of the Third Theater, that is the component inspired by Odin Teatret, in the broader movement of the grassroots theater groups, and reconstructs the contradictions that emerged in relation to the different ways of articulating the relationship with the common foundation of politics and the broader youth political movement of those years.

Il saggio ricostruisce i tempi e i modi in cui la nozione di Terzo Teatro si è imposta nel panorama del teatro di nuova professionalità degli anni Settanta. Una vicenda che appare scontata solo a posteriori e che non fu del tutto lineare né priva di contraddizioni. Con l’ausilio dei documenti dell’epoca, l’autrice ripercorre l’affermazione del Terzo Teatro, ossia della componente di ispirazione Odin, nel più ampio movimento dei gruppi di base, e ricostruisce le contraddizioni che emersero in relazione ai diversi modi di articolare il rapporto con il fondamento comune della politica e il più vasto movimento politico giovanile di quegli anni.
