Abstract

I rapporti tra critica genetica, critica delle varianti e filologia d'autore si possono ricostruire alla luce dell'evoluzione della critica delle varianti di Gianfranco Contini, di cui ci sono rimasti alcuni appunti di una lezione tenuta in Svizzera nel 1945 e che definisce le ragioni della critica delle correzioni in relazione alla poetica simbolista di Mallarmé e Valéry, apertamente osteggiati da Croce, e scelti invece da Contini, insieme a Proust, come primo banco di prova di uno studio diacronico e genetico dei testi. Il saggio ricostruisce l'ambito culturale e filosofico in cui, nel cuore dell'Europa, in questa coraggiosa estensione dell'ambito letterario al frammenti e all'incompiuto, viene fondata la critica delle varianti.
