Aristocratiche romee alle corti iberiche (secoli XIII-XIV)

Abstract

La documentazione conservata presso gli archivi spagnoli - in particolar modo l'Archivio di Stato di Barcellona -, permette di individuare più di una aristocratica romano-orientale presente nei regni di Aragona e Castilla tra la fine del secolo XIII e la prima metà del XIV. Il loro status privilegiato e la vicinanza con le corti significano l'attenzione dei Regni verso l'impero bizantino, in chiave di sviluppo di commerci ma anche di appropriazione di porzioni di terre, in una fase in cui la compattezza dello stesso impero comincia a disgregarsi lasciando spazio alla frammentazione della quale cercano di avvantaggiarsi le potenze occidentali. Interessante anche l'uso strumentale che il nazionalismo catalano di fine Ottocento fece della presenza delle bizantine in Aragona-Catalogna.
