Corresponsabilidad eclesial

Corresponsabilidad eclesial

Abstract

Ecclesiastical co-responsibility The entry describes the evolution of Canon law, in particular following the innovative acquisitions of the Second Vatican Council regarding the co-responsibility of all the faithful in realizing the mission of the Church. In fact, at the time of the Pio-Benedictine Code, the absence of the hypothesis for a communis christifidelium status and before that, a lack of awareness regarding the ecclesiastical importance of the “category” of the “simply baptized”, rather than any functional or vocational distinction, had led to a distorted interpretation of the entire economy in Canon law, as it was exaggeratedly elitist and hinged on the clerical hierarchy alone. Analysing the authentic nature of the Church which pivots on Divine Law, following in the footsteps of the Council, the Code of Canon Law dated 1983 focuses on the figure of the chistifidelis as the central figure in the system of Canon law and effectively translates this centrality into rights, faculties, institutions and organisms. Thus, the essay briefly describes the ministries exercised by the faithful, with activities connected to the tria munera Christi, possible both in the temporal order (in mundo) and in the Church itself (in Ecclesia). It then continues, in particular, regarding the various organs and structures of co-responsibility, numbering and outlining those constituted on the universal Church level and those constituted on the particular Church level: it outlines their configuration, functions and action and development methods, always bearing in mind the various components of the societas Ecclesiae in the distinction between the common priesthood and the ministerial priesthood.
