La voce analizza il contenuto e le finalità dell’archivio segreto diocesano, soffermandosi sulle diverse tipologie di documenti che in esso si devono depositare e sulle rationes della loro conservazione riservata. Si illustrano poi le norme che nella vigente codificazione per la Chiesa latina (con riferimenti anche al Codex Canonum Ecclesiarum Orientalium) disciplinano la custodia e l’accesso ai documenti ivi contenuti. Ci si sofferma quindi sul delicato problema della prevista distruzione periodica di documenti dell’archivio segreto: tale norma, ispirata principalmente all’esigenza di tutelare la buona fama delle persone e di evitare scandalo e dissidi, è in contrasto con l’interesse alla preservazione di documenti assai importanti per le ricerche storiografiche. Infine, un ultimo tema trattato è quello dei rapporti tra archivio segreto, archivio corrente ed archivio storico, anche in relazione ai frequenti accordi con le autorità civili che attualmente si occupano di tale materia. Secret Archive The entry analyses the content and the aims of the diocesan secret archive, focusing on the various different types of documents that have to be registered therein and the rationes of their confidential preservation. Also illustrated are the rules that in the applicable code for the Latin Church (with reference also to the Codex Canonum Ecclesiarum Orientalium), govern the safekeeping of the documents contained therein and access to them. It focuses therefore, on the delicate question of the planned periodical destruction of the secret archive; this rule, largely influenced by the need to protect the good name of individuals and avoid scandals and disagreement, is in contrast with the interest in preserving documents that are so important for historiographic research. Finally, the last theme treated concerns the relationship between the secret archive, the current archive and the historical archive, also with regard to the frequent agreements with the civil authorities that currently deal with such material.
