Abstract

Il recente lavoro di Vinicius de Figueiredo, professore di filosofia moderna ed estetica presso l’Università federale di Curitiba (UFPR) in Brasile, si pone il problema di analizzare lo sviluppo della coppia concettuale libertà-eguaglianza in seno al pensiero moderno, la sua nascita in Francia tra la seconda metà del secolo XVII ed il secolo XVIII. Non si tratta solo di un problema di storia delle idee, ma di una questione attualissima e urgente. Siamo soliti pensare le democrazie parlamentari come fondate su libertà ed eguaglianza e diamo per scontato il loro compito di difenderle.
