The paper presents the preliminary results concerning the study of the Punic transport amphorae found in the city of Tharros, in Central-West Sardinia, and its territory. The pottery comes from stratigraphic excavations carried out in the urban area, from archaeological surveys in the Sinis Peninsula, where a great number of rural settlements of Punic period were found, and from ceramic production sites of the hinterland. The amphorae were at first studied from a typological point of view, revealing the predominant presence of Punic amphorae of Sardinian tradition. The ceramic fabrics were then analysed, in order to single out the different groups, characterise them and detect the presence of various productions. The distinctive features of local fabrics were identified and described.
