Abstract

Se le nozioni di tipologia architettonica e morfologia urbana entrano a far parte del dibattito italiano sull’architettura negli anni Settanta come strumenti operativi, finalizzati alla costruzione di una teoria della progettazione su basi razionali con obiettivi didattici e pratici, è tuttavia a partire dal riferimento alla storia, a determinate esperienze della storia dell’architettura, che esse vengono elaborate e codificate. L’insegnamento dei “Caratteri degli Edifici”, di cui molti dei protagonisti di questo dibattito (impegnati anche in una sostanziale riforma della didattica), sono in quegli anni incaricati, si definisce proprio come il «luogo d’incontro tra le discipline tecniche e le discipline storico-critiche», come quella disciplina che «non può prescindere dalla storia dell’architettura (...), intesa non solo come conoscenza delle opere e delle personalità che hanno concorso a formarla, ma come necessario supporto critico per continuare nel presente quella storia stessa».
