Since Directive 2002/91/EC on the energy efficiency of buildings was adopted, there has been a strong increase of the interest in all the themes related to the rationalization of energy consumptions, regarding both new and existing buildings. This chapter defines various energy rating indexes used for the assessment and prediction of energy use in buildings and describes both heating and cooling energy monitoring procedures.
