An analytical procedure for free phenol analysis in phenol-formaldehyde polycondensates avoiding free phenol separation is proposed. Sample aqueous solution is diluted with acetone and dehydrated by contact with zeolite molecular sieves; finally IR determination is performed at 14.4 microns. The method was applied to industrial resol solutions and checked by the standard addition method.
