I cantieri architettonici dell’abbazia di Sant’Andrea di Vercelli (XIII- XVI secolo)

Abstract

Questo contributo intende presentare alcuni esiti della ricerca che ha riguardato l’analisi del costruito della chiesa di Sant’Andrea attraverso la lettura congiunta di fonti materiali e documentarie. Le numerose indagini effettuate hanno consentito di raccogliere nuovi dati utili ad implementare il quadro di conoscenza del manufatto. I risultati su cui si intende qui focalizzare maggiormente l’attenzione sono quelli che hanno permesso di definire le fasi dei cantieri medievali (XIII e XV secolo) e di ricostruire gli interventi realizzati nel corso del XVI secolo, che hanno interessato l’intero complesso abbaziale e che, soprattutto in seguito ai restauri ottocenteschi, non si conservano integralmente. La ben nota e straordinaria complessità del costruito emerge anche da questo lavoro, una ricerca aperta a futuri approfondimenti, che ancora una volta esprime la necessità di continuare ad interrogarsi sull’architettura e sul rapporto tra architettura, articolazione degli spazi ed esigenze liturgiche
