Meleagro e la caccia calidonia: echi ovidiani nel repertorio iconografico

Abstract

Le Metamorfosi di Ovidio, che godettero nel corso dei secoli di una travolgente fortuna, si rivelano ancora oggi ricche di interessanti spunti e informazioni se analizzate dalla particolare angolazione dello storico dell’arte. Dopo aver esaminato il racconto ovidiano, si passerà in rassegna la produzione iconografica, per tentare di evidenziare tangenze o divergenze tra i due repertori. Particolare attenzione sarà riservata a un preciso tipo di produzione artigianale, ossia i sarcofagi di età medio e tardo imperiale, in cui il mito godette di una travolgente fortuna. I rilievi saranno posti sistematicamente in confronto con il racconto delle Metamorfosi, così da capire, attraverso l’individuazione di connessioni tra i due piani narrativi, se e in che misura il repertorio funerario sia in qualche modo debitore dello scritto del poeta di Sulmona.
