Il silenzio della polifonia

Abstract

Partendo dalla rilettura di alcuni documenti editi da Leonardo Frasson, il contributo si propone di fare luce sulle vicende che hanno contrassegnato il primo periodo di attività (1480-1520) della cappella musicale del Santo a Padova, per investigare il tipo di polifonia praticata nella basilica tra Quattro e Cinquecento. L'indagine viene condotta considerando quanto succedeva in area veneta in relazione ai movimenti di riforma religiosa, alle scelte musicali sostenute dai vescovi di provenienza veneziana e agli interventi di Eugenio IV in favore delle scuole di grammatica e canto. L'approfondimento delle testimonianze documentarie permette di individuare l'affermazione di un nuovo linguaggio musicale, derivato dall'innesto selettivo di procedimenti franco-fiamminghi nella più autentica tradizione del canto italiano. In particolare, valutando le ragioni dell'opposizione dei frati del Santo alla presenza in basilica di maestri di musica d'oltralpe, è possibile individuare le tracce di una prassi polifonica che trova una possibile esemplificazione in una serie di composizioni anonime copiate nel ms. A17 della Biblioteca Capitolare di Padova.
