Abstract

Inaudita e ingannevole è la presenza di Dioniso, il nemico dei tessitori, il dio che scioglie e dissolve, "la cui manifestazione trascina gli umani alla pazzia". Attraverso pagine dense e affascinanti, Otto ci conduce alla scoperta di un dio 'straordinario', e, come già Nietzsche prima di lui, si fa esegeta della complessità dionisiaca per cristallizzare quell'irriducibile singolarità che è stata la 'forma greca' del divino. Da semplice opposto della ragione, l'irrazionale assume nella lettura di Otto l'aspetto di Dioniso stesso, in cui la contraddizione è duplicità sensibile e piena di senso. E in quella che emerge come tesi portante, fra le più sorprendenti, del libro, Dioniso si rivela un dio genuinamente greco - non proveniente dall'Asia Minore come spesso ipotizzato -, dunque piena espressione di quel "divino grecamente sperimentato" che, secondo Otto, rappresenta "un'eccezione nella storia dell'umanità".
