I Romani di CDL 206. Esercizio di diplomatica e storia su un documento longobardo

Abstract

Oggetto di questo contributo è una “famosa” carta longobarda: una charta offersionis, datata 767 aprile 9, Pistoia, pervenuta per il tramite di una copia notarile del secolo XII (Archivio di Stato di Firenze, Diplomatico, Rocchettini di Pistoia, 767 aprile 9) e pubblicata da Luigi Schiaparelli nel Codice diplomatico longobardo. Questa charta è famosa nella storiografia moderna a causa di una parola – Romani –, che sembra usata quale sinonimo di contadini-servi (massari). La conclusione di questo contributo è che Romani era il risultato dell’’incomprensione nella copiatura della parola originale massarii, vergata con scrittura di età longobarda: la cosiddetta corsiva nuova. Con la struttura ipertestuale l’Autrice ha cercato di riprodurre il flusso dei ragionamenti di ordine filologico, storico e paleografico nei diversi percorsi delle singole questioni, che hanno creato uno stretto viluppo attorno alla questione centrale dei Romani.
