Abstract

ENGLISH ABSTRACT The contribution offers a comparison between the roman Francesco Colonna, believed by Calvesi and many scholars to be the author of Hypnerotomachia Poliphili (1499) and Giovanni Gioviano Pontano, patron of a chapel built in Naples in 1493 in the same style of antiquarian restoration of the baronial palace of Palestrina built in 1492 by Francesco Colonna. The author comments on three unpublished documents he found in the archives: the only known autograph letter of Francesco Colonna, useful to attribute to him other manuscript works by means of handwriting comparison, and the documents through which Francesco Colonna was appointed Canon of St. Peter and participant Apostolic Prothonotary.
