Epigrafia latina: Ostia: cento iscrizioni in contesto

Abstract

This handbook of Latin epigraphy can be regarded as traditional, being based on a presentation of the documents, and at the same time as innovative, because it focuses on a single site, Ostia, the port of Rome and a privileged neighbour city in respect to Rome. Unlike many other sites of the Empire, Ostia presents a rich epigraphic heritage, preceeded only by Rome self, but with the important advantage, that most of its inscriptions can be connected to their respective findspots and historical contexts. Ostia is a good example for many other local communities and at the same time unique by virtue of its function and its relations with Rome.
