One of the issues that ancient grammarians addressed was explaining expressions in literary texts that had become incomprehensible over time because they were linked to particular locations, situations or circumstances. This contribution examines a number of such ‘zetemata’ discussed by Eratosthenes of Cyrene in his work On Old Comedy.
