Abstract

Filippo, pubblicata nel 1783, è la tragedia con cui Alfieri dà avvio a quella riforma del teatro e del tragico che auspica in molti suoi scritti. In questa nostra edizione, per la prima volta, fuori da un’analisi tradizionale volta a mettere in luce soprattutto il valore letterario dell’opera, la tragedia alfieriana viene ricondotta ai principi drammaturgici che hanno fondato la sua composizione, convogliando l’attenzione del lettore sul profondo rapporto che in Alfieri sussiste tra la composizione drammaturgica e il verso poetico. Viene così messo in luce come il conflitto tragico sia motore tanto delle “psicologie” dei personaggi quanto dell’azione che si svolgerà sulla scena e come la scelta di fare entrare in scena il protagonista solo nel secondo atto sia sostenuta da una mirabile strutturazione della tensione drammatica. Il pubblico viene coinvolto grazie all’identificazione con Carlo e Isabella nel ruolo di vittime. Il saggio introduttivo, firmato da Stefano Locatelli, in sinergia con l’analisi strutturale realizzata nella seconda parte del libro, mostra il Filippo di Alfieri in una prospettiva quanto mai attuale, capace di appassionare e sovvertire ancora oggi le aspettative.
