Abstract

Sebbene una buona parte dei bambini nati prematuramente seguano un percorso evolutivo normale e a scuola raggiungano risultati nell’ambito della norma, le ricerche forniscono chiare indicazioni che la nascita pretermine pone il bambino a rischio di deficit neuropsicologici e cognitivi, difficoltà scolastiche e problemi emotivi e comportamentali. L’esistenza di un rapporto chiaro, sebbene complesso nelle sue relazioni con i fattori multipli interferenti con lo sviluppo del bambino, confermato da differenze medie di 8 punti nel quoziente di sviluppo tra 27 e 30 mesi, hanno evidenziato andamenti evolutivi distinti in funzione di peso ed età gestazionale. L’impatto e l’importanza delle conseguenze della patologia pre e perinatale sullo sviluppo psicologico, cognitivo e emotivo del bambino, ma soprattutto dell’efficacia delle tecniche di intervento precoce sugli esiti a distanza, pongono in maniera pressante l’esigenza di servizi di valutazione e intervento individualizzato in grado fornire strutture idonee a far fronte alle difficoltà evolutive del bambino e della famiglia.
