Abstract

Nello studiare i motivi decorativi presenti sulla Maiolica Arcaica (XIII-XV) di Cencelle (VT) è emersa la possibilità di osservare e isolare una serie di immagini che per soggetto, fattezze e significato costituiscono degli spunti di riflessione sui rapporti che intercorrono tra le decorazioni ceramiche e la realtà che le circonda. Questo tipo di approccio si pone in linea con un duplice canale interpretativo che da anni caratterizza lo studio delle fonti iconografiche in relazione alla ceramica medievale: da una parte un’analisi che potremmo definire ‘diretta’ che passa attraverso l’osservazione dei manufatti ceramici all’interno di quadri, affreschi, miniature ecc., dall’altra, quello che potremmo definire ‘indiretta’ e che analizza la ricorrenza dei medesimi motivi decorativi nelle ceramiche e nelle altre arti figurative, con riscontri spesso puntuali negli ornamenti e nei soggetti. Nell'articolo proposto viene presa in considerazione questa seconda lettura interpretativa per affrontare lo studio dei profili muliebri rinvenuti sulle maioliche arcaiche di area alto laziale rinvenuti anche all'interno delle stratigrafie di Cencelle.
