Il volgare in latino. Lingua parlata, psicolinguistica e sociolinguistica in Boncompagno da Signa

Abstract

Diviso in tre sezioni (1. Boncompagno e il volgare; 2. I meccanismi espressivi; 3. Dalla strada al foro), l’articolo mette in rilievo la spiccata sensibilità di Boncompagno da Signa verso la lingua parlata quale si ricava dai suoi numerosi scritti e specialmente dal capitolo dedicato alla transumptio nella Rhetorica novissima, letta pubblicamente a Bologna nel 1235 ma frutto di un lavoro iniziato a Venezia circa quindici o venti anni prima. In questa opera il retore alterna la registrazione di esempi tratti dalla viva voce dei parlanti (naturalmente tradotti in latino) a tentativi di comprensione dei meccanismi che presiedono all’espressione linguistica così da giungere a formare un documentato e per giunta spiritosissimo quadro di sociolinguistica e psicolinguistica applicato ai parlanti all'Italia centro settentrionale dei primi del Duecento. Nonostante il carattere di occasionalità, le osservazioni di Boncompagno si configurano nell’insieme come il più attento, articolato e originale osservatorio della lingua parlata – non solo nell’ambito dell’ars dictaminis ma anche in quello della cultura latina tra Cento e Duecento – prima del De vulgari eloquentia.
