Abstract

Il saggio è dedicato nella sua prima parte alla ricostruzione di come Carlo Magno e il suo operato siano stati rappresentati dalle fonti coeve e dalla tradizione letteraria dei secoli centrali del Medioevo. Successivamente analizza il richiamo legittimante alla figura di Carlo Magno avvenuto in tempi relativamente recente, richiamandosi in particolare al nazismo e alla fondazione della comunità europea.
