Abstract

Georg Brandes (1842-1927), danese, critico letterario e studioso di fama internazionale, fu il capofila di un movimento che proiettò la cultura nordica ai vertici dell’avanguardia europea del fin de siècle. Il suo saggio su Nietzsche, Radicalismo aristocratico (1889), non è soltanto il primo di una lunga teoria di testi che nel volgere di pochi anni segneranno l’immensa fortuna critica del filosofo tedesco, ma anche la voce, ora distaccata, ora appassionata di chi per Nietzsche rappresentava un modello critico e un esempio intellettuale e fu al tempo stesso un’isola di serenità e comprensione nel periodo che precedette il crollo psichico del gennaio 1889. L’edizione che qui presentiamo comprende, oltre a Radicalismo aristocratico, anche i successivi interventi di Brandes su Nietzsche e il carteggio tra i due autori: una serie di materiali che si offrono con la duplice valenza di vivida testimonianza su un periodo decisivo e controverso della modernità, e, insieme, di tuttora sorprendente attualità.
