Alfonso il Magnanimo e il dono della Zisa al Panormita: recupero umanistico di una bayt al-ḥikma?

Abstract

In questo saggio si cerca di suffragare con documenti d’archivio l’ipotesi di Juan Carlos Ruiz Souza, alla cui memoria è dedicato il volume, sulla funzione di bayt al-ḥikma della Zisa di Palermo. Indagando la documentazione relativa all’edificio conservata negli archivi palermitani e della Corona d’Aragona, e in particolare alla vicenda della donazione della Zisa al Panormita da parte di Alfonso il Magnanimo e al temporaneo desiderio del sovrano di collocare nella Zisa la biblioteca regia, si cerca di dimostrare che l’iniziativa di Alfonso si fondava sulla consapevolezza che l’edificio palermitano non era sorto con la funzione di semplice solacium, come ancora oggi molti ritengono, ma come specifica «casa del sapere».
