Abstract

Elsa Schiaparelli (Roma 1890 - Parigi 1973) fu una delle figure più innovative e influenti della moda internazionale del periodo tra le due guerre. Pioniera dello stile sportswear e dell'avanguardia artistica, fondò a Parigi nel 1927 la sua maison di alta moda, affermandosi rapidamente come arbitra di stile e tendenze. Attraverso intense collaborazioni con i principali esponenti del Surrealismo, in particolare Salvador Dalí e Jean Cocteau, creò un originale connubio tra il linguaggio visivo dell'avanguardia artistica e l'arte sartoriale, ridefinendo i canoni estetici dell'abbigliamento e degli accessori femminili. Precorritrice del fenomeno industriale del prêt-à-porter, fu la prima donna creatrice di moda a comparire in copertina sulla rivista americana Time (1934).
