Existe uma espécie de pudor histórico para falar sobre a máscara dos atores da Commedia dell’Arte, tanto do passado como do presente; o autor, revivendo momentos da própria experiência com a máscara, encontra talvez os motivos latentes e não expressos dessa histórica "remoção": de um lado, a descoberta dos aspectos desagradáveis de si mesmo, de outro, a sensação de que, em algum momento, a máscara não tem mais nada a dizer ao ator que a usa.
There is a kind of historical shyness to talk about the mask by the actors of the Commedia dell’Arte, both of the past and of the present; the author, looking at some moments of his own experience with the mask, finds perhaps the latent and unexpressed motives of this historical “removal”: on the one hand the discovery of unpleasant aspects of oneself, on the other the feeling that at some point the mask has nothing more to say to the actor who wears it.
