Ruins are an ancient treasure necessary to modern culture, to be explored with careful patience and attention, with love fore these ancient artefacts, with the respect we have for our ancestors and the listening to the suggestions they want to offer us, that they have rightly and solemnly transmitted: first of all the choices have lasted for centuries such as distributive typologies, those concerning space, shape and spaces of relationship. When crusts have fallen off during centuries, we must meditate about these teachings again, in the light of modern culture of living. Ruins may have a critical function towards contemporary city which by comparison becomes subject to judgement and whose many miseries and few qualities stand out. They can suggest lost values still necessary to the planning of contemporary cities. A cover for Pava.
