Abstract

La Biblioteca Civica di Verona conserva un quadernetto manoscritto di Cesare Betteloni, che contiene una quarantina fra satire politiche e di costume, imitazioni e componimenti giocosi. Sfilano in questi versi, rimasti finora per gran parte inediti e sconosciuti, personaggi ed eventi del memorabile Quarantotto: Carlo Alberto e i Piemontesi, Radetzky e i croati; e, sullo sfondo, il sottobosco di varia umanità che una satira di costume rispettosa del concreto riesce quasi sempre a trattenere al di qua di un’astratta stereotipia. Una sorta di colorito diorama, capace di ricreare quel mondo à part entière. Ecco allora i voltagabbana, le spie, i diabolici ma scornati gesuiti o il marito beota fatto cornuto dall’«uffizial savojardo» che ospita in casa: tutti temi variamente ricorrenti nella poesia satirica risorgimentale, ma qui declinati sempre a partire da precise vicende di cronaca locale.
