Abstract

Con este artículo queremos poner de manifiesto la importancia que ha tenido el mobiliario coral en la vida litúrgica de las parroquias y colegiatas. Por un lado, la historia nos pone de manifiesto la existencia de varias sillerías de coro que sucesivamente han sido sustituidas en el templo, unas veces por cambios de gusto estilístico y otras por el mal estado de conservación de las mismas unido a su antigüedad. También es importante resaltar los cambios de ubicación dentro del propio inmueble, como en este caso que pasó de la nave central en la antigua mezquita cristianizada al presbiterio en el nuevo templo barroco, para con posterioridad volver a ocupar el penúltimo tramo de la nave central, a imagen y semejanza de la costumbre arraigada en los templos españoles, para ser desmontada y ubicada, a finales del siglo XIX, unida al cancel del órgano y puerta principal, siendo desarticulada, cedida en parte a la parroquia de San Andrés de Sevilla, conservándose unos restos de sitiales ubicados a la entrada de la sacristía y presbiterio. Por último, debido a los graves atentados que se vienen produciendo contra este tipo de mobiliario litúrgico desde mediados del siglo XX hasta la actualidad, creemos de vital importancia recoger la historia y descripción de todos los elementos que de dicho conjunto coral se conservan en la actualidad.
