Abstract

This study is based on the hypothesis that the communicative approach to teaching and learning Spanish carried out at at the Spanish Language and Culture Centres (ALCE) run by the Ministry of Education in foreign countries can be significantly enriched if some CLIL (content and language integrated learning) methodological principles are systematically integrated with a long-term perspective. To prove it, an educational innovation has been designed and implemented in ALCE New York. The results of our evaluation confirm the improvement in the acquisition of vocabulary of students whose lesson plan has been enriched with CLIL methodological principles. However it would be necessary to maintain these methodological strategies so as to make the results more forceful and effective over time.
