Abstract

ABSTRACT THE ROLE OF ISLAM IN POST-SOVIET UZBEK HISTORIOGRAPHY Alameddin, Azzam M.S., Department of International Relations Supervisor: Prof. Dr. Süha Bölükbaşıoğlu December 1999, 119 Pages This thesis studies the role of religion in Uzbekistan in the Post-Soviet era, in an attempt to understand the nature of religious awakening which has increasingly influenced the nation's politics in the past decade. By reviewing theoretical literature on the role of religion in Muslim societies and the meaning of culture, ethnicity and nationalism, and relating that to actual events and political developments in the country, the thesis seeks to establish that religious awakening in Uzbekistan is associated with nationalism and culture rather than political ideology. To achieve that the thesis is divided into six chapters mat include an introduction and a conclusion, in addition to four iiichapters covering respectively history of Islam in Uzbekistan, the main religious and nationalist movements since the creation of the state, the signs and features of religious influence in the county, and the causes that have led and contributed to the rise of Islam in Uzbekistan. oz ISLAMIN SOVYET SONRASI ÖZBEK HISTOGRAFYASINDAKI ROLÜ Alammedin, Azzam Yüksek Lisans, Uluslararası İlişkiler Bölümü Tez Yöneticisi: Prof. Dr. Süha Bölükbaşıoğlu Aralık 1999, 119 Sayfa Tezin amacı dinin Sovyet sonrası Özbekistan'daki rolü ve son on yılda Özbek Toplumunu etkiliyen dini uyanışı açıklamaktır. Bu tez teorik literatürü taramakta dinin müslüman toplumlardaki rolünü, Kültür, etnik yapı ve milliyetçişiğin anlamım irdelemektir. Özbekistanda olan olaylara ve siyasi gelişmeler bu teorik çerçeveyi uygulayan bu tez Özbekistan'daki dini uyanışı, siyasi ideoloji değel, aslında miliyetşilik olduğunu ortaya koyuyor. Bunu açıklamak için tez 6 bölüme ayrılıyor. Başlangıç ve sonuç bölümünün dışındaki dürt bölümde, Özbekistanın siyasi tarihi, önemli dini ve miliyetçiakımlar, dini etkinin özellikleri ve İslamın Özbekistan'daki yükselişi anlatılmıştır.
