Abstract

The aim of this study is to examine the relationship between the listening metacognitive awareness of secondary school 5th grade students and their listening comprehension skills. The study was created with the relational screening model that reveals the relationship between two variables. 5th grade students studying at various secondary schools in Denizli province participated in the study in the 2020-2021 academic year. In order to determine the listening metacognitive awareness levels of the participants, the 3- point Likert-type scale (ÜDAFÖ) developed by Katrancı (2012) was used. In order to measure the listening skills of the students, the "Listening Comprehension Test" based on Barrett's Taxonomy was used. The collected data were analyzed with the Microsoft SPSS (21.0) statistical program as ??, Ss, t and P scores. According to the data obtained from the study, the metacognitive awareness levels of the 5th grade students before, during and after listening are at the level of "Always" and there was no significant difference according to gender. The listening comprehension skill levels of the students are at the "Medium" level. A positive, moderately significant relationship was found between students' listening metacognitive awareness and their listening comprehension skills. Suggestions were presented based on the results of the study.
