Abstract

In this study, it tries to be questioned that the Annales school, which was founded in France in 1929 and which revolutionized on historiography, the impact of the annales on local historiography in Turkey. A total of 103 local historical study of the first three generations of local historians in Turkey was analyzed with the methods of Annales School. A number of criteria such as holistic understanding of history, comparative method, long-term study, giving importance to interdisciplinary method, backward method, and quantitative work are included in these methods. In this study, it was tried to reach the roots of Annales before looking into the methodological of the Annales school. Thus, the similarities are determined between Annales and approaches of historiography of 18th, 19th and 20th centuries. While the beginning and development of local history in the world and in Turkey was questioned, many questions were examined, including the delay of the reason for the emergence of local historiography in Turkey. The study shows that the Annales effect in Turkish historiography, which started with Köprülü and Barkan but took root with Halil İnalcık, continued to a certain extent and direction in some historians working on local history over the next generations, with statistical data and analyses.
