Laodikeia'dan Ladik'e Denizli

Abstract

After a destıuctive earthquake which was happened in the fırst half of 7th century A.D., people of Laodiceia moved to fırstly Kaleiçi, Bereketli Hisarköy Castle and Asartepe. The Laodikeia excavations and finds which has been continuing since 5 years, also confırm this moving. This moving has two reasons; fırstly, after an earthquake this happened first half of ih century A.D., deformation of the water supply which was brought from Denizli Başpınar, secondly the invasion which threatened all Mediterranean Basin by Arabians in this period. During history Lycos (Çürüksu) Valley has been a transition region, because of positioning centre on a plain, always affected by this transition and attacking. Because of this reason in Early Byzantine Peri od, the cities which were founded middle ofa plain, moved into valleys and slopes of mounts. In the sarne century Colossians moved to new foundation which named Chonai at the slopes of Cadmos (Honaz) Mount. In llth- 12th centuries also Byzantine Sources give information and confırmed this moving too. At late period the travelers like Ibn Battuta and Evliya Çelebi gave information about the people whom lived in Kaleci show that in this period Laodiceians lived in new foundation named Ladik and kept on their old weaving tradition.
