Abstract

1-Methylcyclopropene (1-MCP) is an inhibitor of ethylene perception that can effect ripening and/or senescence processes in fruit, vegetable and ornamental products. Since the discovery of 1-MCP, studies are carried out to examine its mode of action, application and effects on ethylene inhibition. A variety of factors may need to be considered when using 1-MCP including cultivar, active concentrations, temperature, duration, developmental stage, time from harvest to treatment, method of application and storage condition. In some products 1-MCP delays ripening and senescence and reduces ethylene production, respiration, color changes and softening, and slows down some of the adverse changes in some quality parameters. 1-MCP is registered for use on a number of horticultural products in several countries, although commercial use remains limited.

Etilen engelleyici olan 1-metilsiklopropen (1-MCP), meyve, sebze ve süs bitkilerinde olgunlaşma ve/veya yaşlanmayı etkileyebilmektedir. 1-MCP’nin bulunuşundan beri etki mekanizması, uygulanması ve etilenin etkilerinin engellenmesine yönelik çok sayıda çalışma yapılmış ve yapılmaktadır. 1-MCP kullanılmasında, çeşit, aktif konsantrasyon, sıcaklık, süre, gelişme aşaması, hasattan uygulamaya kadar geçen süre, uygulama şekli ve depolama koşulları gibi birçok faktör göz önünde bulundurulmalıdır. 1-MCP bazı ürünlerde olgunlaşma ve yaşlanmayı geciktirmiş ve etilen üretimini, solunumu, renk değişimini ve yumuşamayı azaltmış ve bazı kalite parametrelerindeki olumsuz gelişmeleri yavaşlatmıştır. 1-MCP ticari olarak uygulama alanı sınırlı olmasına rağmen, birçok ülkede çok sayıda bahçe ürününde kullanım için ruhsatlandırılmıştır.
