Kilikia Eyaleti

Abstract

Kilikia, Romaʼnın Asia Eyaletiʼnden sonra Anadoluʼda kurulan ikinci eyaletiydi. Asia Eyaletiʼnin kuruluşunun ardından Anadoluʼda genişlemeye yönelik bir politika izlemeyen Roma, Kilikia bölgesinde mevzilenen korsanlık tehlikesinin büyümesi üzerine duruma el koydu. Önce diplomatik yollarla, sonuç alınmayınca da askeri yollarla korsan tehdidi bertaraf edildi. Bölgede güvenliğin sürekliliği için de Kilikia bir Roma eyaleti haline getirildi. Kilikia Eyaleti, özellikle Cumhuriyet Dönemiʼnde Romaʼnın doğu seferlerinde askeri ve stratejik bakımdan önem kazandı. İmparatorluk Dönemiʼnde ise Kilikia Eyaleti eski önemini yitirdi. Bu çalışmada Kilikia Eyaletiʼnin geçirdiği tüm evreler ele alındı ve Romaʼnın bölgede uyguladığı askeri ve siyasi politikalar imparator Diocletianus dönemine kadar değerlendirildi.
