Ayşegül Devecioğlu’nun Ağlayan Dağ Susan Nehir isimli romanı Çingenelerin hayatı ve varoluş mücadeleleri üzerine odaklanmıştır. Üstkurmaca tekniklerinden oldukça sık faydalanılan bu eserde Naciye Abla isimli bir Çingene kadının başkişi olarak yer almış ve onun anlattığı hikâyeler isimsiz anlatıcının kaleminden yeniden yazılmıştır. Roman, Çingene bir kadının hayatına odaklanması ve yakın tarihte gerçekleşmiş ve Çingeneleri de ilgilendiren bazı siyasi olaylara gönderme yapması nedeniyle kimlik temelli bir okumaya uygun görülebilir. Ancak, bu çalışmada roman, anlatıcının Naciye Abla tarafından kendisine anlatılan hikâyelerin gerçekliğini sorgulama yolcuğunun bir hikâyesi olarak değerlendirilecektir. Bu çalışmada, romanda asıl çatışmanın gerçek/kurmaca ikili zıtlığı tarafından yaratıldığı ve bu zıtlığın kültür/doğa, akıl/duygu, erkek/kadın gibi başka zıtlıklarla da beslendiği savunulmaktadır. Yazarın bu romanıyla bahsedilen ikili zıtlıkları çözme girişiminde olduğu iddia edilmektedir. Bu bakımdan, romanın ikili zıtlıkların reddedildiği ekofeminizmin ışığında okunması uygun görülmüştür. Çalışmanın amacı, yazarın bu romanıyla, hiyerarşik ayrımlara ve aklın üstünlüğüne dayanan ikili düşünce sistemini nasıl eleştirdiğini tartışmaktır.

Ayşegül Devecioğlu’s Ağlayan Dağ Susan Nehir focuses on gypsies’ lives and their struggle of existence. In this novel, which is full of metafictional elements, the protagonist is a gypsy woman called Naciye Abla, and her stories are re-narrated by the unnamed narrator. Given that the novel is centred on a gypsy woman’s life with reference to some recent political developments about gypsies, it is possible to analyse this novel focusing on identity issues. However, in this study, the novel is read as the narrator’s quest for the truth in Naciye Abla’s stories. This study claims that the main conflict in the novel stems from the fact/fiction binary opposition, which is supported by the culture/nature, mind/emotion, and man/woman oppositions. This study argues that the author attempts to dismantle these binary oppositions. From this perspective, it is deemed appropriate to read the novel in the light of ecofeminism as the latter also rejects binary oppositions. The purpose of the study is to reveal how the writer criticizes the hierarchical dualist thought system which is based on the superiority of reason.
