Abstract

The aim of the study was to evaluate the community of insects of Orders Lepidoptera and Coleoptera in two areas with eucalyptus forest plantations and two fragments of native forest, mainly Cerrado forest, in the region of Anastácio, Mato Grosso do Sul State, Brazil. The species were collected once every fortnight from December, 2007 to December, 2009, using one light trap per area assessed. The insect species collected more frequent had its represented graphically and the communities characterization was made by the indexes of diversity (Shannon-Weaver index), evenness and similarity. A total of 475 species of insects were collected and 22.348 specimens, and Lepidoptera was responsible for 32% of all specimen and 64,27% of species collected. The main conclusion is that the communities of Coleoptera and Lepidoptera are little similar when compared the areas with eucalyptus plantations and native forest areas and the period of two years was not be able to characterize the insect community in the areas assessed, mainly considering beetles.
