Abstract

The mechanic harvest of sugarcane has increased in Brazil. In this system there is a straw accumulation in the soil surface. It may affect the potassium dynamics in the soil-plant system as well the plant response to nutrients fertilizing. To this, the experiment aimed evaluate the potassium effects under growth, nutrition, and yield in the first sugarcane ratoon under unburned harvest in a Red Latosol (Oxisol). The experiment was carried out using the variety RB 86- 7515, at Pitangueiras Açúcar e Álcool sugar mill experimental area, Pitangueiras, SP. The treatments had five potassium doses (0, 32.5, 65.0, 130.0, and 195.0 kg ha-1 of K2O) arranged in randomized blocks and five replications. The potassium was applied next the ratoon line, without incorporation, as potassium chlorine. The potassium fertilization increased the potassium in the soil and leaves, reflecting higher uptake by the culture. However, it did not affect the culture development as well its technological quality, although it increased the stalk production
